Bombers Ultra Comfy Lock Up
A reliable option for maintaining stability. This design offers a balance of 50% tongue relief and 50% jaw relief, making it a great choice if you’re not entirely sure whether your pony is more sensitive to tongue or bar pressure. It’s often a safe starting point for finer, reactive types.
Caelo Balanced Contact Pony Eggbutt
A superb, well-considered design. This 3-piece mouthpiece provides a small amount of tongue relief while still allowing the bit to fold backwards for clear lateral aids. Importantly, it does not collapse down onto the jaw, helping to avoid that “squeezing” feeling. We often see ponies become noticeably steadier in the frame in this style.
Bombers Moulded Mullen
Simple and, in our opinion, one of the softest dressage-legal rubber mouthpieces available. Ideal for very sensitive or delicate ponies. It features a wire core, making it suitable for Pony Club use as well. A great option when you want to keep everything as quiet and uncomplicated as possible.
Fager Sara
A good alternative when you like the feel of a rubber bit, but have a pony that may be inclined to chew through one. This design feels like a firmer version of rubber, with a small amount of tongue relief. The port is kept low enough to avoid excessive bar pressure, making it a nice middle ground between comfort and durability.
Myler MB02 Pony Eggbutt
A more stable option that helps avoid excessive tongue pressure. This is a traditional barrel-style mouthpiece, offering independent side movement without collapsing. It’s also one of the few options available in very small sizes (down to 4.25”), which can be particularly useful for smaller pony mouths.
All of these styles share a common feature; they remain stable and predictable in the mouth. For many Australian Ponies, that consistency is what allows them to relax into the contact and go more confidently.
