Caelo Leather Baby Pelham Bit – For Sensitive Horses

Size

Drop 1 Lands 5th May - PREORDER YOURS 🌟

The Caelo Leather Bany Pelham is designed for horses that benefit from a softer, more adaptive contact.

This bit offers a stable, consistent feel through the rein while reducing the sharper feel often associated with metal mouthpieces. Suitable for Showjumping and eventing cross country phases where a quieter connection is preferred.

Leather behaves differently to metal. Over time, the mouthpiece softens and shapes to the individual horse’s mouth, creating a more customised feel. This can be useful for horses that show sensitivity, resistance to metal, or when you are still determining the most suitable mouthpiece.

Features:
• 20mm mouthpiece thickness
• 5cm short shank cheekpiece
• Reinforced vinyl internal core

• Vegetable tanned leather with no harsh chemicals or dyes
• Hooks and chain included

Care:
Before first use, soak the mouthpiece in food-grade mineral oil and allow it to drip dry. Ongoing care will help maintain softness and longevity.

Important:
Leather bits are not suitable for horses that actively chew or bite the bit, as this will reduce the lifespan of the product.

FAQ

How long does it take to soften?
You will notice it softening after the first few uses, with further shaping occurring over approximately 6 rides.

Can I use a different oil?
Food-grade mineral oil is recommended. A light vegetable oil can be used if needed, but may require more frequent reapplication.

What action will the Baby Pelham have on my horse?

A Baby Pelham combining a leather mouthpiece applies mild leverage, applying pressure to the mouth, poll, and chin.

The shorter shank creates a softer, more immediate action than a standard Pelham, offering added control and a more stable contact. Shortening the length of neck and asking for chin in action.

What if my horse chews the bit?
Leather bits are not suitable for horses that chew, as this can damage the mouthpiece quickly.
